The NASA Arctic Research of the Composition of the Troposphere from Aircraft and Satellites (ARCTAS) aircraft mission will take place in spring/summer 2008 as part of the POLARCAT consortium of Arctic composition field campaigns under the auspices of the 2007-2008 International Polar Year. Daniel Jacob is co-leading the planning of the mission and Jenny Fisher is producing mission planning movies.

ARCTAS PLANNING MOVIES:

The movies linked below show carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations from different source regions simulated with the GEOS-Chem chemical transport model in an arctic circumpolar projection. CO is used here as a long-lived tracer of combustion to track the flow patterns to the Arctic of northern mid-latitudes pollution and boreal forest fire plumes.

These files are large (3-10 MB) and can take a long time to load. It is recommended that you view them in Internet Explorer or Safari rather than Firefox (load time is shorter in these programs).
